Manifesto |
"We did not get our freedom from the church. The great truth, that all men are by nature free, was never told on Sinai's barren crags, nor by the lonely shores of Galilee." Robert Ingersoll |
The title of this site is a sarcastic jab at the USA's history of claiming a "war on" everything they dislike, such as the vile abomination called The War On Drugs. |
The vast majority of the responses to this site, quite especially the negative ones, were direct results of the Fan Mail and What The Fuck? sections of the site. None of the letters or instant messages listed in the Fan Mail section were instigated by me, but were always responses to persons who, unsolicited by me, decided to come knocking at my virtual door and begin preaching their version of the gospel. I received so many letters from heathens and godlings alike, I felt obliged to post the manifesto listed below. I did so, first because it would save people a lot of time by not having to write me a letter asking me about things which were already posted in the manifesto, and secondly, because it would save me a lot of time having to read, and then respond to, those same letters. Please don't bother to comment about the profanity. I am not a biology professor, so this site will not be remotely similar to something authored by Richard Dawkins, or P.Z Myers. I am a blue-collar person, speaking with blue-collar language, with the full intent of speaking to a blue-collar audience. To be blunt, there is no rational reason to believe a word is profane, we've simply been told, repeatedly, and by a wide ranging number of people, since the first day we learned to utter our first set of orchestrated grunts, "THAT'S A BAD WORD!". It's a silly belief to keep and espouse when you've grown to adulthood. If you tell me not be profane, I will look at you as if you still believe in Santa Claus. The purpose of TheWarOnFaith is not to divide, harass, defame, nor insult any religion, group of religious people, or individual persons for their faith alone. The purpose is simply to defend free thinking individuals from the constant, barbaric attacks upon logic, science, and constitutionally guaranteed rights from those self-serving, mindless, inconsiderate dolts who, with their preferred "holy writ" in hand, openly, publicly, and with evident impunity, besiege the non-religious with all the might and fervor they can muster. It is not the religious person who is offensive, but the disgusting way in which religion can be used by some religious people to excuse responsibility for their anti-social, destructive acts, or general, fevered resistace to progress, such as violence, racism, homophobia, etc. It's not faith itself that is sickening, but the burden of being attacked by so many of the faithful for nothing more than being different from them. For example, the belief some faithful people have that homosexuality is sinful is only a minor issue. It's what so many faithful people do with this belief which is so unbearable, and infuriating. Their compulsion to push this belief on other people is what is loathsome and unforgivable. There is no rational thought process, or evidence, to give a person any reasonable grounds to label homosexuality as wrong. The only reasons to think homosexuality is wrong are religion, and/or, pure, naked, ignorant prejudice. If you have a religious belief that homosexuality is sinful, then you have every right to say so, and every right to not engage in homosexual intercourse, but when you start telling gay people they can't get married because it violates YOUR religious beliefs, then I have no compassion for you. You're nothing but a self-righteous bully who's pushing his religious beliefs on other people. The purpose of this site is not to convince you homosexuality is not sinful. The purpose is to tell you to leave gay people, and everyone else who disagrees with your religious beliefs, the hell alone. The purpose is not to tell other people they can't have their religious beliefs, but to be ever vigilant in resisting the obsession so many of "the faithful" have with attempting to change everyone else's behavior in the name of their religion, and force them under the yoke of their favored dogmas. Usually this group fantasizes about reducing or removing the wall between church and state, and happily cheer all of those who try to chip away at this great, and deeply necessary wall. It is my position, these people are the most virulent, and should be considered a threat, a hundred times more dangerous to America's freedom than the Taliban, To put a finer point on it, keep your religion in your church, and I'll keep my science in science textbooks. If you are a religious person who believes in "Live and let live" then you are in no way targeted by this site. "Live and let live" is my undying creed. You may dance nekkid in your front yard with your face painted purple while praying to your shrubberies and you will hear no complaints from me. However, you religious readers may just be shocked by how rude, condescending, intrusive, judgmental, abrasive and un-informed some of your fellow believers can be. I wish you nothing but peace, but if you are a religious bully, then I wish you nothing but woe. If you believe in a loving god and you actually live your life like a loving person should, then I wish you nothing but happiness, but if you are the religious-hypocritical type who claim to follow a loving god, and yet you go about destroying other people's peace with open hostility and intolerance, then you will find in me no lack of desire, nor ability, to vehemently repel you with extreme prejudice, malice and forethought in such a manner as to make the vengeance of the Old Testament God look like the work of a weak-willed, docile, passive pansy. If you leave the heathens alone, then the heathens will leave you alone. It's that simple. |
You want to pray over a sick child? Cool, but do it AFTER you take them to the doctor for a fucking shot of anti-biotics, goddammit. You want to believe the world is 6,000 years old, cool. Have fun with it. Preach it in your churches and you will hear no complaints from me, but when you try to insert these claims, which are completely, factually baseless, into public schools, you cease to be just a person of faith, and you become a religious bully who's pushing their religious beliefs into the government, and thus, onto other people, and I will use every resource at my disposal to expose your "Creation Science" as the delusion-induced, baseless, ridiculous horse shit it is. Creation Science is many things, but it is NOT science, and it belongs your church, not my fucking class room. You want to put religion back into the government so that God has his rightful place in the laws of the land and the institutions of government? Good, move your lunatic ass to Iran, you crazy fuck. "The Taliban and the Al-Qaida made it abundantly clear why the wall between church and state is so important. As an atheist and a former Marine, I find it acutely offensive that after 9-11 people are actually capable of considering a defense of that wall as an unpatriotic act." ..........Christopher, Letter to the Editor, The Houston Chronicle, published July 4, 2002 (A letter I submitted in response to all the insane furor over the Newdow lawsuit.) ...and, "Give unto Cesar what is Cesar's" means, Mr Pope type dude, after you and all the Holy Men pray for a pedophile priest, you turn that sick mother fucker over to the law for secular prosecution. His heart may belong to Jesus, but his ass belongs to The State Of Texas. |
